Lew’s Fishing Update

The lack of Springtime updates I was able to post this year was not for the lack of fishing and good times.  We had a great Spring  season catching stripers on the Susquehanna Flats, getiing more fishing in than ever with the good water conditions.  Since the end of the flats season early this month we have been busy fishing for trout on the Gunpowder River and  for stripers in the middle Chesapeake Bay.  Here are some photos that highlight some of  our Spring  fishing success.

Shelly Ramsey  and Brad Gladfelter above  started our Susquehanna Flats season off early with these nice stripers caught while fishing herring  on the flats and river.  Our only success in late March and Early april was on live bait due to the cool water temps and off color water . 

As water conditions improved, as did the bite on flies and lures.  Our success varied day to day, but we had some exceptional fishing within the mix, and alot of good topwater action.  These are just a sampling of the many great fish and good times we had through the month.

 Cal Wheaton and Russ Weber show off some fine fish. 

Local Docs Amiel Bethel and Ron Tutrone with some beautiful stripers they caught on an evening trip on their 8 weight fly rods.  We had some good fun with these fish and many more fishing in just 5 ft of water or less.

Jim and Elaine Pulk caught  these beauties on topwater poppers mid -day in the middle of the flats one day in late April.

Frank Dickinson and Bob Porter  with some rockfish who fell for stickbaits fished quickly in 6-10 feet of water.

Russ Weber landed what had to be the most unique fish of the season, clearly deformed for some reason or another.  Let’s hope they don’t all start looking like this.
